SETTING

The Datai is a luxurious hideaway. Situated on a ridge high above the waterfront the site includes untouched rainforest, swamps, streams and wildlife, with spectacular views of the ocean from the hotel. Blended to echo nature, mixed with style and fine traditions. It maintains quality and excellence as its overwhelming missions. Look around you and you'll notice subtlety and air of a hotel experience that is beyond all compare.

Kerry Hill, an Australian now based in Singapore was the architect and Didier Lefort a talent nurtured in Paris invited to expertly draw its design. The architect has cleverly adapted the building to the natural terrain, building on a crest 150 feet above the sea and extending 500 metres through the jungle to the water’s edge. By spreading the hotel over a large area, the building does not overwhelm and, instead, unfolds itself gently to the visitors.

The architect reduced the need for clearing trees in the hotel and pavilion locations, while also using trained elephants instead of bulldozers to fell trees where necessary, since the animals cause less damage than manmade machines. Additionally, building materials add to the site sensitivity, with exposed wood allowed to age naturally with vegetation creeping up the bases of the structures .

Each of the architect's approaches to the site - location, construction and materials - gives the hotel an attachment to its surroundings that is enhanced by the exterior walkways and program spaces.

FACILITIES

Airport Representative

An airport representative is on stand by for all arriving and departing flights to assist with transportation and baggage on arrival and airline check in upon departure.

Check in Procedure

Guests are met upon arrival by receptionists and escorted to the Lobby Lounge where they are handed a cold towel and served a complimentary fresh fruit cocktail welcome drink. Registration formalities are done here and the guest is escorted to his room by the receptionist.

Baby Sitting

Baby sitting can be arranged through our Reception. 12 hours advance reservation is required.

Gift shop

Opens daily 9:00 am 10:00 pm. Featuring fashion, beach wear, toiletries, magazines, newspapers, Asian artefacts, jewellery and antiques.

Library

Opens daily 10:00 am 10:00 pm. Featuring magazines, newspaper, novels plus a selection of large coffe table books on a variety of topics (architecture, sports, music, art, antiques, Man culture, gardening etc). Complimentary use for house guests only.

Transportation

Transportation and vehicle rental can be arranged through our Concierge. Advance reservation is recommended. 6:00 am 12:00 midnight daily. Except Friday and Saturday which is until 1:00 am. Minimum rental charge is one day 24 hours. Extra hours are charged at 1/6 of the applicable daily rate to the maximum of six hours, thereafter a full day rate and CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) will be charged.

Parking

The hotel has 45 parking bays.

Medical Services

The hotel has its own clinic and nurse. Complicated medical problems will be referred to the hotel's doctor in Kuah town.

Newspaper

A copy of New Straits Times is delivered daily to each guest room.

Picnic Luncheons

Picnic luncheons can be ordered through room service before 8:00 pm for delivery the next day.

Water Sports Pavilion

The following non motorised water sports equipment are available for use to hotel guests on complimentary basis.

A guide can be arranged for the use of Hobie Cat catamaran and Hobie Cat single hull at RM.10.00 per hour. Boat charters, deep sea Fishing, scuba diving can be arranged with advance notice through our staff at the Water Sports Pavilion.

Mountain Bicycles

Mountain bicycles are available for quest on a complimentary basis. There are total of large bicycles (26'), 4 medium bicycles (24') and 2 small bicycles (20"). Please contact our Concierge for use of these bicycles.

Health Club

There is no charge for the use of the health club. Facilities includes Sauna (Male + Female), hot and cold plunge bath (male + female), juice bar, life cycle, life step, dumbbells, Catalina 3 station universal machine with over 30 exercise, abdominal crunch boat.

Hours of operation: 7am – 11pm
Guest below the age of 14 years are not allowed to use the Health Club.

ROOM TYPES

The Datai offers a choice of spacious rooms in the hotel building or luxury villas set in the rainforest. All are beautifully decorated and incorporate natural materials to create a luxurious comfortable holiday environment.

DELUXE

The deluxe rooms feature a combined bedroom and living area with balcony. Rooms are furnished with a king-size bed, private bar, a writing desk and two comfortable day beds. The spacious bathroom and dressing room feature twin vanities, bathtub and shower.

VILLAS

The villas are set within the tropical rain forest. They consist of freestanding units, connected to all public facilities by a series of pathways. They offer a private deck with sun lounges and an elevated veranda, extensive bathroom and dressing room featuring twin vanities with bathtub, shower, separate toilet and luggage space.

POOL VILLA

The villas are set within the tropical rain forest. They consist of freestanding units, connected to all public facilities by a series of pathways. They offer a private deck with its own plunge pool and a built in Jacuzzi, an elevated veranda, extensive bathroom and dressing room featuring twin vanities with bathtub, shower, separate toilet and luggage space as well as day beds in the living room.

POOL SUITE

The Pool Suites are set within the tropical rain forest within close proximity to the beach and Beach Club. The freestanding rooms are connected to a kitchen with a dining area and a spacious living room which is shared with one other Pool Suite. There are four Pool Suites and every two Suites are adjoined and share one swimming pool with a sun deck.

DATAI SUITE

The Datai Suite has two ample bedrooms, a spacious living room with separate dining area as well as a fully equipped kitchen. The large sandstone balcony provides the guest with an exceptionally beautiful panoramic view.

CORNER-END SUITE

The generously laid out Corner and End Suites have individual bedrooms with en suite bath's, separate living and dining areas with a big dining table that adds a sense of extraordinary spaciousness. Every suite opens out to a spacious balcony.

TRADITIONAL BODY TREATMENT

LULUR
A blend of turmeric, sandalwood, cinnamon and galangal is rubbed on the body to exfoliate the skin which is then refreshed with a natural yogurt moisturizer.

BOREH
A Balinese speciality herb scrub made from fresh clove, cardamom, ginger, galangal which improves circulation and creates supple skin. Guests are wrapped in blankets to enjoy the deep penetrating heat while our therapist gently massages heat, neck and hands.

COCONUT SCRUB
This gentle natural cleansing is rich in nutrients and replenishes body with pure healing oils. Perfect for sensitive sunburned skin.

RAINFOREST HERBAL SCRUB
A coarse scrub made from dried corn blended with tongkat ali herbal leaves from the rainforest.
